Freinberg Transmitter

The transmitter Freiberg is a broadcasting facility on the Freiberg in Linz. The internal name of the station is: LINZ2

It was launched in 1928 as a medium-wave transmitter to life and used until 1936, a T- antenna, which was suspended on two 45 meter high steel framework masts. 1936, this antenna was replaced by a 165 -meter-high, insulated against ground, guyed lattice steel transmission tower. In the course of changes of the transmission frequency whose height was reduced to 120 meters in 1950 and 1957 increased again to 146 meters. In 1965, the transmitters were replaced. After the broadcasting of radio programs has largely been replaced by VHF the center shaft of the transmission tower was only used as a carrier for FM and TV antennas.

In the period from April to August 2008, the existing, 80 -year-old radio mast was initially cut by around 20 meters and built a new addition to the old radio mast. Once the new transmitter of the old mast was finally dismantled. The new 127 meter high mast serves only as an antenna support, a function as a self- radiating transmission tower is no longer provided.

The owner, ORF / ORS will send out from here the DVB- T programs for Greater Linz ( see table below). About the same antenna system and the DVB- H services of Media Broadcast will be sent. Since 2008, the station also LoungeFM, an Upper Austrian private radio is utilized. Is sent from LoungeFM on the frequency 102.0 MHz with 300 watts transmitter power.

In addition, located on the mast transmitters and radio relay systems of mobile operators as well as various other radio services.

In the building next to the towers is the radio monitoring Linz, a department of the BMVIT that used to PTV (Post), now the Telekom Austria, belonged. Here also other services of the PTV were previously housed that dealt with wireless technology, which later eg Mobilkom Austria emerged. On the roof there are numerous locating and evaluating antenna systems of radio monitoring. At the site of the radio monitoring is also one of the anchoring foundations of the station (next to the main entrance ).
