Freistadt District

The district -free city is a political district in Upper Austria north-east of Linz.

It is bordered on the north by the Czech Republic and on the east by the province of Lower Austria. In the south, it borders on the district Perg and to the west by the district Urfahr. According to the district division of Upper Austria Upper Austria belongs to the district. The border to Lower Austria is a large, sparsely inhabited forest area, the forest Weinberger.

History

The district was created in 1868. In 1903, the district court Leonfelden to the newly created district Urfahr was ceded. As a substitute of the judicial district of the district Pregarten Perg was added. Between 1938 and 1960, the district court Leonfelden was in turn part of the district.

Administrative divisions

The district -free city is divided into 27 municipalities including two cities and 17 municipalities market. The population figures given are from 1 January 2013.

  • Sdlg = settlement
  • E = bowery (only if they have their own locality code)
