Fremifontaine

Fremifontaine is a commune with 477 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) in the department of Vosges in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district of Saint- Dié -des-Vosges, founded the Canton Brouvelieures and the 1998 Association of Municipalities Canton de Brouvelieures.

Geography

The community Fremifontaine lies in the Vosges, 24 kilometers northeast Epinal and halfway between the cities of Bruyeres and Rambervillers.

The 9.56 km ² large municipality covers a portion of the western foothills of the Vosges. The headwaters of the river Mortagne forms on a length of three kilometers to the eastern boundary of the municipality Fremifontaines. In the up to 80 meters deep incised valley flow in the range of Fremifontaine the mountain streams Xeuty, Corbeuse, Linty and Optinrupt. From the left bank of the Mortagne the land rises steeply to the west, culminating in a wooded plateau with heights of over 400 m above sea level ( Haut de Xeuty 427 m, Haut de Linty 470 m, 404 m Benâte ). Almost 70 % of the community are brain area covered by forests ( Beni Bois, Bois Chevillots ). In sloping terrain to the west on clearings, the precursor of today's settlement have developed. The upper village (La Haute Ville) is now with the middle village (La Moyenne Ville ) and the lower village (La Basse Ville) grown together. The western edge of the municipal area coincides with the edge of the Vosges and the beginning here flatter hill country that spreads to 20 kilometers further west running Mosel. Is drained to the west of the municipality Fremifontaine of the streams Ruisseau de Dracourt, Ruisseau des Roseaux and Ruisseau de Benazé that accrue over the Arentèle of Mortagne.

Neighboring municipalities of Sainte -Hélène and Fremifontaine are Autrey in the north, Mortagne in the east, Domfaing in the Southeast, Grand Villers in the south and Pierrepont- sur -l'Arentèle in the West.

History

The area on the western edge of the Vosges was inhabited in Gallo- Roman times. Near Fremifontaine found the remains of statues, including those of the goddess Epona. The first tradition of the place name Fremifontaine dates back to 1309, when the Templars were offered here a building. The Templars have left the still visible today heavily weathered ruins of a castle in the mountain forest southwest of the core site.

At the former three parts ( upper, middle and low- village) different families had different rights. The upper village belonged to the sphere of influence of the Abbot of Autrey. Just before the French Revolution, the three villages were part of the Bailiwick of Bruyeres. After the revolution and the establishment of community disputes concerning the ancient rights existed for many years on. Ecclesiastical Fremifontaine belonged to the parish of Destord. At this parish the chapter of Saint- Dié held the patronage rights. 1845 originated in Fremifontaine the parish church of St. Peter in Chains ( Paroissiale Église Saint -Pierre- ès -Liens ).

In the municipality of agricultural and forestry businesses dominate ( dairy farming, fruit production, needle felling ); There is a bakery and a butcher. Fremifontaine is beyond primary school and kindergarten site.

Transport links

East and west of Fremifontaine lead two streets of Rambervillers after Bruyeres (D 48 and D 50 in Arentèletal in Mortagnetal ). Other roads connect Fremifontaine with Mortagne and Pierrepont- sur -l'Arentèle. Seven kilometers south location of Fremifontaine station Bruyeres is located on the operated by the TER Lorraine railway line Arches Saint- Dié. The railway line from Bruyeres on Fremifontaine after Rambervillers was shut down in 1980 ( passenger ) or 1988 ( freight).
