Fremont County (Colorado)
Fremont County [ fɹi mɑ ː ː nt] is a county located in the central to southern part of the State of Colorado of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Cañon City.
Geography
Fremont County is located partly in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, a mountain range of the Rocky Mountains, which extends into the district in the southwest to the river valleys of the Arkansas. The West Fremont is a pure mountain landscape, in which there are only some very small settlements along the Arkansas.
It is located in the easternmost part of the Rocky Mountains and is clockwise from the districts of plate (northeast ), El Paso, Pueblo, Custer, Saguache, Chaffee and Park enclosed.
History
Fremont, named after the U.S. politicians and explorer John Charles Frémont, one of the 17 original administrative units at the newly established 1861 Colorado Territory. He filed originally in the south to the Costilla County, but resigned in 1870 first areas to the newly formed district Huerfano, 1877 more at Custer and finally in 1899 in the Northeast still a very small part of knob.

According to the census of 2000, there were 46 145 people in the county. There were 15,232 households, and 10,494 families. The population density was 12 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 89.52 percent White, 5.34 percent African American, 1.53 percent Native American, 0.50 percent Asian, 0.06 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 1.22 percent from other races groups; 1.82 percent were descended from two or more races. 10.35 percent of the total population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 15,232 households out of which 30.0 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 56.3 percent were married couples living together, 9.2 percent were single mothers. 31.1 percent were non-families. 26.9 percent of all households and 12.5 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.43 and the average family size was 2.93.
Based on the county the population was spread from 20.6 percent population under 18 years, 7.5 percent between 18 and 24 years, 33.4 percent between 25 and 44 years, 24.0 percent between 45 and 64 years and 14.6 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 133.9 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 143.5 males.
The median income for a household was $ 34,150, and the median income for a family was $ 42,303. Males have a median income of $ 30,428, women $ 23,112. The per capita income was $ 17,420. 11.7 percent of the population and 8.3 percent of families are below the poverty line. This included 14.8 percent of the population under the age of 18 and 7.4 percent of the population aged 65 and over.
Places
Largest city of Fremont has about 16,000 inhabitants Cañon City, which together with the on the other Arkansasseite lying Lincoln Park a small metropolitan area, nearly half of all residents live in the Fremont. The second largest city is Penrose, like Lincoln Park not a separate city, but officially defined place for the census ( census -designated place ).
