Fremont is a city and the county seat ( county seat ) of the Dodge County in the U.S. state of Nebraska.

History

Fremont was founded on 23 August 1856 by the Pinney - Barnard & Co. and named after the famous explorer John Charles Fremont. Was registered officially the City and County Seat of the 1858 Dodge County 1860. The hope of a connection to the railroad was fulfilled in 1866 by the arrival of the Union Pacific Railroad tracks. Its strategic location ensured Fremont the future, especially as a stopover of many pioneers who traveled westward, and as a supply point for the further railway to the west. 1906 led railway lines of three great railway companies by Fremont and both businesses and industries as well as agriculture had established itself as an economic factor. In addition, nowadays, about 800,000 tourists in the Fremont Lakes State Recreation Area every year.

Geography

Fremont is located in eastern Nebraska to the Nebraska State Highways 41 and 22, and U.S. Highway 77, it is about 50 miles from Omaha away.

According to United States Census 2000 Fremont has 25,174 inhabitants, of which 11,977 men and 13,197 women.
