French Army Light Aviation

The Aviation légère de l' armée de terre ( ALAT ) is the Army Aviation Corps of the French Army. They fulfilled their contracts primarily by aircraft, particularly military helicopters. The ALAT is one of the combat troops, their primary areas of responsibility are infantry support, antitank, air combat, air transport of personnel and material, and education. History

The light aviation of the land forces, the literal translation of the French name, was founded in 1954.

During the Cold War it was, among other French military units stationed in West Germany, including first few years in Mainz- Finthen and until after the end of the Cold War in Friedrichshafen.
