French denier

As a denier ( borrowed from the Latin denarius coin denomination ) is the smallest on the French computing pound, the Livre, referred based ( silver ) coin.

Twelve deniers give a sou, 20 Sous result in a Livre, so that 240 deniers give a Livre. The denier corresponds to the penny of the English and the penny of the German computing pound system. Both go as well as the French denier coin on the the Great introduced by Karl Carolingian coinage back with its basic unit, the Karl pounds back.

The last French already heavily copper-containing deniers tournois were minted in 1649 in Tours.
