French Institute of Health and Medical Research

The Institut national de la santé et de la recherche médicale (short: Inserm ) is a research and development facility ( EPST ) under the responsibility of the Ministère de la Santé ( Ministry of Health ) and the Ministère de la Recherche ( Research Ministry ) of the Republic of France.

Founded in 1964, Inserm is the only French public research organization, which is dedicated to the human health. His research focuses on the disease, namely the frequent but also the very rare, biology, medicine and public health.

Mission

Its mission includes:

  • Clinical research,
  • Diagnosis and treatment,
  • Public Health.

Assignment

Today, 85% of the 360 research laboratories of INSERM are located in university hospitals or cancer centers. The others are incorporated into the research facilities of the Centre national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS ), or in the Institute Pasteur or Curie.
