Construction

The Borda was built as intrépide in the naval arsenal of Rochefort. The work began in 1853 and lasted ten years. At the time of its completion, originally conceived as a pure sailing ship intrépide was already technically obsolete and needed to be modernized before the launch, later supplemented by a steam drive.

History

In the years 1866 and 1867, the intrépide was with recirculation of the French expeditionary force to Mexico in use. On July 16, 1881, the ship was involved in the capture of Sfax. 1887 intrépide was withdrawn from active service and placed in reserve.

1890 the ship after Jean -Charles de Borda was renamed Borda and served until 1914, the École Navale as a training ship. 1921, the ship was wrecked.
