French Union

In the wake of decolonization after the Second World War France founded in 1946, the French Union ( French Union) with the aim to transform its colonial empire on the model of the British Commonwealth of Nations. The example of the French Union and the Commonwealth, in turn, oriented the Dutch - Indonesian Union.

Development

Base were in 1944 at the conference of Brazzaville formulated principles. Together with the Fourth Republic on 27 October 1946, the French Union formed with the establishment of the Fifth Republic on 4 October 1958 in the Communauté française (French Community ) was converted.

Chairman of the Union was the French president. France should control only the common foreign, defense, justice and monetary policies of the Member States. The Union should include " a hundred million Frenchmen ".
