Frenchman River

Frenchman River, or Frenchman Creek is a river in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan and the U.S. state of Montana. He is a left tributary of the Milk River, which in turn is a tributary of the Missouri.

The river length is about 341 km.

The name origin is unclear, although Métis and Francophone settlers in the early 20th century inhabited its shores. The Frenchman Formation, a stratigraphical unit of the Western Canadian sedimentation, was named after the river.

River

The origins of the river at the Cypress Lake, in the Cypress Hills, at an altitude of 975 m. It first flows eastward to the east end. He then turns to the southeast. Several reservoirs ( Eastend Reservoir, Huff Lake, Newton Lake ) were built along the river course. The river is used for irrigation of the surrounding countryside. When flowing through the Grasslands National Park of the Frenchman River to begin to meander. He later crossed the state line into Montana, where it flows north of Saco in Phillips County in the Milk River.

Fauna

The following types of fish, among others in the Frenchman River before: Walleye, American perch, pike, burbot, carp, Catostomus commersonii and Moxostoma macrolepidotum.
