Geographical Location

The Samtgemeinde Freren located in the southeast of the district.

Neighboring communities

In the north, the Municipality Freren adjacent to the Municipality Lengerich, on the east by the Municipality Fuerstenau in the district of Osnabrück and the community Hopsten in the district of Steinfurt, in North Rhine -Westphalia, on the south by the Municipality Spellenberg and to the west by the town of Lingen.

The administrative headquarters of the velvet municipality is in town Freren.

Samtgemeinde Mayor

Samtgemeinde mayor is Godehard Ritz ( CDU). He was confirmed in the local elections on 10 September 2006 at the first ballot with 72.3 % of the vote in his office.

Samtgemeinderat

The Samtgemeinderat has 26 elected members. Then there is the directly elected mayor of the velvet municipality. After the local elections on 11 September 2011 it belong to two parties.

  • SPD - 4 seats

The next local elections will take place in 2016.
