Geography

Geographical Location

Fresenburg between Papenburg and Meppen on the Ems and the Dortmund -Ems Canal. The municipality belongs to the Samtgemeinde Lathen.

Since the districts Fresenburg and Düthe are completely surrounded by water speak ( the Ems, in the east of the Dortmund -Ems Canal in the west) one can in these districts from an island location.

Neighboring communities

Neighboring municipalities are in the north, the municipality Kluse in Samtgemeinde Dorpen, in the east the municipality Renkenberge, in the south the communities Lathen and Niederlangen and to the west the town Sustrum.

History

Explanation of the name

Old names of the place are 1226 Vresenberghe 1290 Vresenberg, 1315 and 1326 Vresenberghe Vresenberghe. The Fresenburg at Lathen is eponymous. The castle dates from the time when the Ravens Berger in Emsland quarreled with the Tecklenburgern on the Hümmling for possession. The exact time of its construction is not clear. First, it is mentioned as Vresenberghe 1226, but is likely to be several decades older. The name contains the Low German part " Frese " for " Friese ".

The honorary mayor since the 09th Sept., 2001, Mr. Bernhard Johanning, his deputy is since that time Mr. Heinrich Ahrens.

Coat of arms

" In gold golden wave plate flow of a red battlements a lime tree growing with three strong branches, accompanied by two red crenellated towers. " To describe Dr. Korn by him in 1991 on the basis of proposals from Fresenburg, Düthe and Melstrup repeatedly revised presentation.

The castle with two towers refers to the castles Fresenburg and Düthe. The Linde symbolizes the " Theiort ", an ancient courthouse square in Düthe. Signs of a court place was usually a linden. The three strong branches of the tree are for the three districts of the municipality. The waves in the shield flow indicate that the old Fresenburg was a waterside location. In addition, the waters of the Ems and the Dortmund- Ems Canal plays a significant role in the community.

The colors of gold and red are the colors of the coat of arms old diocese of Münster, the municipality from 1252 belonged to its low pin to the end of the Old Kingdom in 1803.

Economy and infrastructure

Traffic

Fresenburg can be reached via the motorway A31 (exit Lathen ). The distance to the motorway is about 10 km. Furthermore Fresenburg is accessible via the federal highway B70. The connection to the Dortmund -Ems Canal is given with a port.

Education

The village has a primary school. The Schoolhouse is listed as Open day school since 2008. At their respective 1st and 2nd class, and 3rd and 4th grade are taught together, only main subjects are excluded therefrom. To their playground has a small football pitch, a climbing frame and a basket swing. Since 2010 there is also a cafeteria. Headmistress is Helena Hopster, Staff is Gaby Wesel.
