Fresno County, California

The Fresno County is a county located in the state of California, United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Fresno.

History

The area of present-day County was formerly a dry desert. The county was established in 1856 from parts of the County Mariposa County, Merced County, and Tulare County. 1861 parts of the county to the Mono County in 1861 at the Madera County Location. He got the name from Fresno Creek. Fresno means ash. Previously, Millerton Countyseat. However, it was so badly damaged by a disaster that Fresno Countyseat was. 1882 was the largest fire ever broke out in Fresno County.

According to the census of 2000, there were 799 407 people in Fresno County. There were 252 940 households and 186 669 families. The population density was 52 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 54.30 % White, 5.30 % African American, 1.60 % Native American, 8.05 % Asian, 0.13 % Pacific Islander residents from the and 25.90% from other races groups; 4.73% were descended from two or more races. 43.99 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 252 940 households out of which 41.20 % have children under the age of 18 living with them. 52.50 % were married couples living together, 15.20% had a female householder with no husband. 26.20% were non-families. 20.60% of all households and 7.80% had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 3.09 and the average family size was 3.59 persons.

Based on the county the population was spread out with 32.10 % under the age of 18, 11.10 % from 18 to 24, 28.50 % from 25 to 44 years, 18.50% between 45 and 64 years and 9.90% were 65 years old or older. The average age was 30 years. For every 100 females there were 100.40 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.20 males.

The median income for a household was $ 34,725, and the median income for a family was $ 38,455. Males have a median income of $ 33,375, women $ 26,501. The per capita income was $ 15,495. 22.90 % percent of the population and 17.60 % of families are below the poverty line. 31.70 % of those under age 18 and 9.90% were 65 years or older.
