Fretsaw

A coping saw is a tool for cutting thin solid wood and plywood panels. It is characterized by the fact that you can not only straight, but also narrow curves saw her. It is primarily used for production of fretwork, so fine patterns in wood.

Appearance

A coping saw consists of a U-shaped bracket with a wooden handle. Each located at the two ends of the bow to a screw terminal. Between the screw a fret saw blade can be clamped and secured with wing nuts.

Use

To engage the blade it is first attached to a screw terminal. Then, the jigsaw to be bent together slightly so that the other end of the blade extends to the second screw. Then it can be tightened. The steep side of the saw teeth should face the handle of the jigsaw. The U-shape of the jigsaw acts as a spring and keeps the blade tension. The workpiece is placed on a special holder ( fretwork tables ) that can be attached to a table top with a front ferrule and a V-shaped opening. The coping saw is held with the hand on the handle so that it points down and away from the ironing table. The workpiece is held with one hand and rotated into the desired cutting direction. With the other ( right hand - right hand, left hand left hand) hand is the scroll saw moves up and down.

Is a desired saw cut can not be reached from the outside, a hole must be drilled and the jigsaw blade to be threaded therein. A drill is used for drilling often used.

Application

With a coping saw can be wooden boards up to a thickness of about 6 mm work with. Thicker plates or workpieces can also be edited, but only with difficulty. Using a suitable saw blade is also thin sheets and plastic sheets can be cut.

Designation

The jigsaws are an Italian invention from 1562 that was used for cutting out inlays. These inlays were often held in the form of leaves, thus the name, is coping saw to explain '.

Similar tools

The electrical equivalent of the jigsaw is the scroll saw. Their advantage lies in the mechanically ensured compliance of the cutting angle.

Is the turning radius required is not too small, similar work done as well with a jigsaw. For this purpose one uses special curve leaves that have a normal version, whose edges are tapered but to approximately the size of a leaf blade. In addition to this there are bus devices with which the jigsaw " upside down " - that is, with the top sheet - can be attached.
