Freudenburg

Freudenburg is a municipality in the Trier -Saar castle in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Saar castle.

Geographical location

The village lies at the foot of Mount Eider, a 439 -meter-high elevation. South of the main town, the border runs to Saarland, about 1.5 kilometers west lies the village Kollesleuken. Saar castle, the seat of the municipal administration, is located about seven kilometers north- north-east, south-east there are about eight kilometers to the Saarland Mettlach. The environment has a large number of hiking trails.

History

Built in 1337 King John of Bohemia, Count of Luxembourg, called at the foot of the mountain the Eider " Freudenburg ," at this time " Frey thing." As part of a castle protection system between Trier and Luxembourg they served as security for the military road Trier- Metz.
