Freudenthal-Preis

The Freudenthal company dedicated to serving as a German -language literary society of the cultivation and dissemination of the Lower Saxon variety of Low German in general, and the works of Freudenthal brothers Friedrich and August in particular.

It was first established on 24 April 1948 in Rotenburg ( Wümme) as Friedrich Freudenthal Society. Since about 1975, the Company is aware and clearly beyond the scope of a mere poet and Local History Society and looks at ease in addition as a supporting element of a Low German movement of the present, which Low German in particular by the regularly conducted ceremonies of the " Freudenthal Award" at present writer is visible. 1988, the office of the Company was transferred to the advice of Soltaus former city director Jürgen Fenner from Rotenburg to Soltau. The town hall is the Freudenthal room in which Frederick Freudenthal from 1884 to 1887 worked as mayor.

Since 1979, Heinrich Kroeger is chairman of the Freudenthal Society.

Winners of the Freudenthal - price

Since 1957, named after the brothers Freudenthal price each year (previous exception: 1971 ) is used for prize-worthy unpublished Low German poems, short stories, radio plays or self-contained scenes awarded. Especially from Northern Germany (Lower Saxony represents over 30 winners ), but also from the USA, the Netherlands and England were the previous winners. Since 1970, several winners were awarded in some years. And some have won the award more than once: William Martens (1967, 1974), Jürgen Kropp (1985, 1993, 2003, 2013), Diedrich H. Schmidt (1990, 2005), Silke Mansholt (1997, 2004), Gerd Constapel (2003, 2009) and Aloys Terbille (1994, posthumously, 2010 ).
