Freundel Stuart

7th Prime Minister of Barbados

Freundel Jerome Stuart (born 27 April 1951) is a politician of the Democratic Labour Party (DLP ) from Barbados and, since October 23, 2010 Prime Minister.

Biography

After attending St. Mark's Boys School, St. Martin's Junior School and the Boys' Foundation School, he studied 1971-1975 Political Science and History at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (BA Political Science and History ) from. A subsequent post-graduate study of law from 1977 to 1980, he finished with a Bachelor of Laws ( LL.B. ), before a Master of Laws (LL.M. ) acquired by another post-graduate degree in Public International Law 1982.

Subsequently, he attended between 1982 and 1984 the Hugh Wooding Law School and took after the acquisition of the Legal Education Certificate in 1984 to work as a lawyer ( Attorney -at -Law) on.

His political career began in 1994 as a candidate of the DLP with the election of a member of the meeting house ( House of Assembly ), where he served as a representative of the constituency of St. Philip South to 1999. Later, he was between 2003 and 2007 Member of the Senate before he was re-elected as member of the House of Assembly on 16 January 2008. In this ever since he represents the constituency of St. Michael South.

After the electoral victory of the DLP, he was appointed on 16 January 2008 by Prime Minister David Thompson as Deputy Prime Minister, Attorney General and Minister of the Interior in the government. In May 2010, he gave a speech at the Conference on Common Security Policy of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM ) and the United States in this function.

On 23 October 2010 he was after the death of Thompson Acting Prime Minister.

Successor as Attorney General and Minister of the Interior was then Adriel Brathwaite.

In the parliamentary elections on 21 February 2013, the DLP won with him as Spitzenkanditat a slim majority of 16 to 14 seats. This Freundel Stuart was confirmed in office as Prime Minister of Barbados.
