Fríða Á. Sigurðardóttir

Frida Áslaug Sigurðardóttir ( born December 11, 1940 in Hornstrandir; † May 7, 2010 in Reykjavík ) was an Icelandic literary scholar, librarian and writer.

Life

After going to school and studying was Frida Sigurdardottir 1964-1970 as a librarian at the American Library of the University of Iceland ( Háskóli Íslands ) operates. She was there assistant at the Faculty of Philosophy and then from 1973 to 1975 lecturer at the University of Iceland and the then still independent Pedagogical University ( Kennaraháskóli Íslands ) then. She then studied at the University of Iceland and earned a master's degree there in 1979.

Having worked as a full time writer since 1978, she gave her real literary debut in 1980 with Þetta he ekki alvarlegt, a collection of short stories. Following followed among other short stories and translations of foreign authors.

For her novel Medan Nottin líður it was not only 1990 1992 received the Icelandic Literature Prize, but also the Literature Prize of the Nordic Council. The novel was published in 1998 for the first time in German translation under the title of Nina's story after he has previously been translated into English and other European language.
