History

The name is derived from the Czech word Pátečníci pátek what Friday is, on which the group met regularly one day. The first meetings dating in the fall of 1924 and especially in the spring of 1925, when the first author met mostly with her ​​colleague Karel Čapek or optionally at a then famous Café Slavia.

From 1926 and especially from 1927, the group expanded to include some prominent politicians, including for example, the president Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk and Foreign Minister ( and later President ), Edvard Beneš, who participated in the talks. Around this time the group was thoroughly known to the public after a meeting on New Year's Eve 1926, the subject of a two year process was, which was described in the press as the New Year's Eve affair.
