Fridianus

Frediano of Lucca (c. 520 in Ireland, † March 18 588 in Lucca, Italy), German also Frigidian of Lucca, is a saint of the Roman Catholic Church

Life

According to legend, Frediano was the son of the Irish king Ulaid. He received a Christian education and made 540 on a pilgrimage to Rome. After his return home, he founded a monastery, before he went back to Italy, where he received the sacrament of Holy Orders. In 560 he received the appointment as Bishop of Lucca. During his tenure, he is said to have worked many miracles. Thus preserved his prayers the city from flooding by the Serchio.

He died on 18 March 588

The existence of St. Frediano applies thanks to the written traditions of Pope Gregory the Great as backed up. In Tuscan Lucca him the church Chiesa di San Frediano was ordained under whose high altar his grave is. In this house of God Richard of Wessex and the holy Zita were buried.
