Friedhelm Frischenschlager

Friedhelm Frischenschlager ( born October 6, 1943 in Salzburg) is an Austrian politician ( FPÖ initially, from 1993 LIF).

Life

After high school political activities in the 1960s Frischenschlager took place in the 1970s about the Salzburg local politics the way to the National Council ( 1977-1983; 1986-1996 ). While the SPÖ -FPÖ coalition Fred Sinowatz and Norbert Steger he held the office of the Federal Minister of Defence ( 1983-1986 ).

Caused a stir fresh hit when he in 1985 the Nazi war criminal Walter Reder, who was convicted as a commander in the massacre of Marzabotto, the worst war crime German troops in Italy, to life imprisonment, on his return to Austria greeted with a handshake. Later Frischenschlager regretted lack of sensitivity in this matter.

From 1986 to 1990 he held the office of the FPÖ club chairman. In 1993 he left together with Heide Schmidt and other deputies, the FP because of differences over the EC policy, the protection of minorities, the integration of immigrants and the political style and founded the Liberal Forum (LIF ). From 1996 to 1999 he was a Member of the Fresh Beat LIF to the EU Parliament ( MEP ).

From 2005 to 2007 Frischenschlager Secretary-General of the Federation was UEF ( Union of European Federalists ).

In November 2007, Friedhelm Frischenschlager was elected national chairman of European Federalists Austria.
