Friedrich Anton Wilhelm Miquel

Friedrich Anton Wilhelm Miquel ( born October 24, 1811 in New House in Hannover, † January 23, 1871 in Utrecht ) was a German - Dutch botanist. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Miq. ".

He was a professor in Utrecht and in 1862 director of the Rijksherbariums in Leiden. 1870/71 he served as Rector of the University.

The plant genera Miquelia Meissn. the plant family of Icacinaceae and the genus Miqueliopuntia with the Miqueliopuntia miquelii are named after him.
