Friedrich Boie

Friedrich Boie ( born June 4, 1789 in Meldorf, Schleswig -Holstein, † March 3, 1870 in Kiel ) was a German jurist, ornithologist and entomologist.

Friedrich Boie was the brother of Heinrich Boie herpetologists ( 1794-1827 ). His father was the poet Heinrich Christian Boie ( 1744-1806 ). After the early death of his brother Heinrich on Java Friedrich managed his estate and published Henry Boies letters in which these many new reptile and amphibian species had described. Friedrich Boie was a regular scientific articles in the encyclopaedic newspaper of Lorenz Oken's Isis, including remarks about Merrem 's attempt at a system of amphibians., Which was published in 1827. On August 24, 1860 Friedrich Boie was admitted to the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina. To the genera and species first described Boie, include the Owls (Athene ), the diving ducks genus Aythya, the Mennigvögel ( Pericrocotus ), the Little Tern Noddi or Weißkopfnoddi ( Anous minutus ) and the Mauritiusboa ( Bolyeria multocarinata )
