Friedrich Burmeister (politician)

Friedrich Burmeister ( born March 24, 1888 in Wittenberg, † July 25, 1968 in East Berlin) was Minister of Posts and Telecommunications of the GDR.

Life

Burmeister, born in 1888 as son of a locomotive engineer, came in 1905 in the postal service a. After testing the post assistant and his military service in World War I in an infantry and telecommunications unit 1919, he worked as a postal assistant first in Berlin / Reinickendorf and then in the Oberpostdirektion Schwerin, where he rose to the postal inspector.

1924 He was a member of the Republican Party of Germany ( RPD ) and from 1926 to 1930 the DDP. In 1939 he was promoted to senior postal inspector and transferred to the kingdom of Usti post office to Carlsbad, from 1943.

In 1945 he returned to Schwerin, where he worked for the post office building, and joined the CDU. 1946 and 1949 he was Minister of Labour and Social Affairs of Mecklenburg, then to 1963, Minister of Post and Telecommunications of the GDR. He was also from 1949 to 1958 deputy of the People's Chamber and from 1950 to 1968 member of the board of the CDU.

Burmeister received in 1955 and 1963, the Patriotic Order of Merit, 1959, the Medal of Merit of the GDR, 1960, the Banner of Labor, and in 1968 the honor Clasp to the Patriotic Order of Merit.
