Friedrich Dickel

Friedrich Dickel (born 9 December 1913 in Vohwinkel, now Wuppertal, † 22 October 1993 in Berlin) was Minister of the Interior of the GDR and Chief of the German People's Police from November 1963 to November 1989.

Life

As the son of a bricklayer, he was trained as a molder and shaper after visiting the elementary school 1928 to 1931. He has been active since 1928 in the Communist Youth League of Germany ( KJVD ) and joined the Communist Party in 1931, 1932 Red Aid and the Red Front Fighters' Union at.

From 1933 he worked illegally in Germany and was arrested twice, after a three -month imprisonment he emigrated to France in 1933 to 1935 and was active until 1936 in the Netherlands. He then took over as company commander in Thalmann Battalion of the XI. International Brigade part in the Spanish Civil War. In 1937 he was ordered to a special training to Moscow and was then for the military intelligence service of the USSR ( GRU) in Finland and Shanghai active. In 1943 he was arrested and sentenced by a Japanese court martial.

In May 1946 he returned to Moscow and from there in December 1946 in Berlin. He became a member of the SED, met in May 1947 in the German People's Police and served until 1949, the Board of the DVP in Leipzig. After a course at the Higher Police School in Kochstedt he was until 1953 the commander of the political culture of the school head office training or the People's Police in Berlin- Treptow. On 1 October 1952 he was appointed Major General of the CIP. From 1953 to 1955 he was first deputy head of Political Administration for organizational issues, then until 1956 the political administration of the CIP boss.

With the establishment of the National People's Army in 1956, he was Deputy Minister of National Defence and Chief of the Political Administration. 1956/57, he was first deputy minister. He was also the 1956-1958 Chair of the Army Sports Club forward and 1957 member of the national board of the German Gymnastics and Sports Association. 1957 to 1959 he was a cadet of the Soviet General Staff Academy in Moscow ( Diploma in Military scientists ) and then again to 1963, Deputy Minister of National Defence, this time for equipment and armament. In 1959 he was Permanent Representative of the GDR on the staff of Soviet Forces in Germany ( GSFG ).

In August 1961, Dickel was a member of the bar of the National Defense Council of the GDR in the construction of the Wall in Berlin. In October 1963 he was promoted to lieutenant general and was then from 15 November 1963 to 17 November 1989 as a successor of Karl Maron Minister of the Interior and Chief of the German People's Police and up to 1976 head of the civil defense. In 1965 he was promoted to Colonel General and Army General in 1984. He was from 1967 to 1989 also a member of the Central Committee of the SED and until March 1990 deputy of the People's Chamber.
