Friedrich Fischer

Friedrich Fischer ( born March 19 1849 in Schweinfurt, † October 2, 1899 ) was an inventor in the field of ball and ball bearing technology. In 1896 he founded the First Automatic Gußstahlkugelfabrik Friedrich Fischer AG, or " ball factory fishing " ( colloquially " Kufi " ) (later FAG ball Fischer).

Life

In 1883, Fischer designed a ball grinding machine, the first time it was possible to produce large quantities of steel balls with very little deviation from the ideal shape. The further developed by Fischer and Wilhelm Höpflinger apparatus was constructed in 1890 patented. This laid the foundation for the flourishing in the subsequent years rolling bearing industry was laid.

Fischer in 1872 he founded his first company, which acted first with sewing machines and bicycles. The balls produced by Fischer since 1883 could quickly achieve a leading position in the market, the real upturn but only after a 1890, as the bicycle industry experienced an initial boom. Now the number of employees rose rapidly to over 600 The necessary capital for further expansion in 1896 by the conversion into a corporation (FAG = Fischers Aktien -Gesellschaft) applied. That same year, the move from the Schweinfurt city took place on the spacious premises near the main train station, where FAG still produced today. Due to the large success of FAG and Fries & Höpflinger emerged in a very short time many competing firms. The concomitant overproduction led to the collapse of the market. The number of employees of FAG dropped to just 40 (1898 ). In the midst of crisis Fischer died only fifty years old. After years of stagnation FAG was taken over by George Schaefer (I) 1909.

Friedrich Fischer was the son of Philipp Moritz Fischer, who is next to Pierre Michaux as the inventor of the pedal crank bicycle.
