Friedrich Funcke

Friedrich Funcke ( Funccius ) ( baptized on 27 March 1642 Nossen Electorate of Saxony, † October 20, 1699 in Römstedt, Uelzen, also: Spark) was a German priest, cantor and composer.

After completing his studies in Wittenberg, he worked as a cantor in 1664 in Lüneburg. In 1694 he entered the pastorate in Römstedt, which he held until his death.

In Lüneburg he enjoyed high reputation, 43 of his melodies were incorporated into the local hymnal. A few other religious works have survived, many of his works are lost, however, including a St. Luke Passion. Other, in particular a preserved St. Matthew Passion, it can not be safely attributed.
