Performance

Friedrich Gauermann was a very popular landscape painters of the Biedermeier period. He broke away from the bustling through figures and view painting was based on the Flemish Primitives. This enabled him to establish a novel Wiener landscape naturalism. In 1826 he presented the first of its shaped by light and mood effects images. After a great success of the exhibition in 1830 he began to populate his forest and mountain landscapes with animals, which should be for Gauer 's typical images. In the Vienna Art Exhibition in 1838 Gauer man was placed at the head of landscape painting. Until the 1840s he was commissioned by the Viennese aristocracy ( Prince Metternich, Black Mountain, Liechtenstein ) was commissioned with numerous images of this kind, where he also earned outstanding. When the time taste after 1848 gradually changed, success was after and the patrons were less. In addition, he fell under the influence of the Munich school a sweet alpine - style, but this does not detract from its original meaning of the Austrian landscape paintings of the Biedermeier period. Gauer man studied his motives in the wild. His depictions of animals stand out in its kind in the Austrian painting. The outstanding art-historical importance lay in his drawing and coloristic Championship.

He left in 1185 oil paintings and 174 drawings. His estate was auctioned, but melted away the proceeds of his widow, who had to deal in his lifetime, not good with money can, money between your fingers and it ended up in the poorhouse.
