Friedrich Geiger

Friedrich Geiger ( * November 24, 1907 in Sweet, † 13 June 1996 in Bad Ueberkingen ) was a German automobile engineer and longtime chief designer for Mercedes -Benz, for which he uses the Mercedes -Benz 300 SL developed among others.

Life

After an apprenticeship as a wheelwright who have completed master's examination (1931 ), he completed his studies of the automobile industry ( 1930-1933 ). On April 10, 1933 Geiger joined the department headed by Hermann Ahrens Sonderwagenbau of Daimler -Benz AG at the Sindelfingen plant. Here he developed the design of the body of the Special Roadster Mercedes- Benz 500K. Also caused by him the armored limousines of the types Grand Mercedes (W 07 and W 150 ) and 540 K.

Due to the restructuring of the company after the war he left Mercedes in 1948 for two years. After his return, he had first to post a test designer, some time later, he was promoted to chief designer. In the following years he developed the 300SL Gullwing as well as virtually all Mercedes models in the subsequent period up to the W 116 in 1972. On December 31, 1973 Friedrich Geiger retired. His post was occupied by Bruno Sacco.
