Friedrich Gotthilf Osann

Friedrich Gotthilf Osann ( born August 22, 1794 in Weimar, † November 30, 1858 in Gießen ) was a German classical scholar.

Life

Gottfried Osann was the fourth son of weimaranischen Government Council Friedrich Heinrich Gotthelf Osann (* 1753, † March 29, 1803 in Weimar). His mother was Caroline Amalie Friederika hoof (1766-1843), sister of Christopher William hoof. She married after the early death of his father in his second marriage on October 31, 1815 the Minister of State Christian Gottlob von Voigt. Gottfried Osann received initial training by private tutors in Berlin and attended high school in Weimar, where he was a childhood friend of Arthur Schopenhauer. He studied philosophy at the University of Jena in 1813 and 1814 at the University of Berlin, including in August Boeckh.
