Friedrich Hitzig

Georg Friedrich Heinrich Hitzig ( born November 8, 1811 in Berlin, † October 11, 1881 ) was a German architect and contemporary of Karl Friedrich Schinkel.

Life

He was the son of Julius Eduard Hitzig lawyers, graduated from the Industrial School and the Berlin Academy of Architecture. In 1829 he passed the Surveyor exam. He worked as an intern under Karl Friedrich Schinkel in the construction of the Berlin Observatory. In 1837 he was the architect exam and settled in Berlin as a private builder down. Hitzig was a particularly sought-after architects in the period after Schinkel. Its classical style he developed through the use of elements of the Renaissance in his designs on. In 1845 he undertook a study trip to Italy. He was a member of the Prussian Baudeputation 1850 and 1855, member of the Academy of Arts. 1857 and 1864 he undertook further study trips to countries such as Egypt, Greece, Turkey, to Trieste, and Paris. In 1868 he became a member of the Senate of the Academy of Arts and in 1875 its president. On 1 October 1880 he was chosen by the Academy of Civil Engineering for departmental conductors for building construction.

The family grave is located on the Dorotheenstädtischer Cemetery in Berlin -Mitte, Chausseestraße. Also his father is buried.
