Friedrich II, Duke of Anhalt

Frederick II, Duke of Anhalt ( born August 19, 1856 in Dessau, † April 21, 1918 at Schloss Ballenstedt ) was a German sovereign of the race of Ascanians.

Life

Leopold Friedrich Eduard Karl Alexander was born as the second son of Duke Frederick I in Dessau. From 1904 to 1918 he ruled as Duke of Anhalt.

Friedrich went along with his older brother Leopold of Anhalt on a study trip to Geneva, Bonn and Munich. Both brothers were then as officers in the German army, and remained there until 1883 in active service. After Leopold's untimely death in 1886 Friedrich was heir to the throne and made himself familiar with the concerns of the state administration.

On July 2, 1889 he married in Karlsruhe Princess Marie of Baden, sister of the later Chancellor Max von Baden. Frederick died in the last year of World War I without male offspring. Was succeeded by his brother Edward, who reigned in 1918 for a few months and then also died shortly before the end of the monarchy.

He was since 1875 Corp. loop carrier of the Corps Borussia Bonn.
