Friedrich Lange (artist)

Friedrich Lange ( born October 29, 1834 in Plau am See, † July 18, 1875 in Strasbourg ) was a German history painter.

Life

Friedrich Lange - son of a court clerk - spent his early years in Plau, then in Biitzow, where his father had been transferred. He had six siblings, a younger brother, studied music in Dresden, another died shortly before his law degree. His painting apprenticeship he graduated with Gaston Lenthe (1805-1860) in Schwerin, and then went to the Art Academy in Dresden, where he "5 years of diligently studied as a pupil of the Academy". There he was also " four years more specially students " with Julius Schnorr von Carol Field.

1859 Long received at the art exhibition Dresden a gold medal for " The Entombment of Christ ". In the years 1859-1862 he lived with a grant from the Grand Duke Friedrich Franz II in Rome, where he was a member of St. Luke and the German Association of Artists. From April to October 1862 Long lived in Schwerin, where two small commissions incurred. Then he moved to Bavaria, Austria and Northern Italy. He was only 40 years old.
