Friedrich Markgraf

Friedrich Markgraf ( born 1 February 1897 in Berlin- Friedenau; † March 8, 1987 ) was a German botanist. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Markgr. ".

Life and work

After graduation Markgraf graduated in Biology at the Friedrich -Wilhelms -Universität zu Berlin and graduated in 1922 with the PhD. with a dissertation on The Bredower forest near Berlin: A botanical ecological study from.

After his habilitation he became first professor of botany at the Friedrich -Wilhelms -Universität zu Berlin and then at the Ludwig- Maximilians- University of Munich and director of the Botanical Garden Munich -Nymphenburg ( 1956-1958 ). At times, was Margrave also Professor of Botany at the University of Zurich. During his teaching and research activities, he was primarily concerned with questions of botanical systematics, morphology of plants and for Geobotany and undertook this exploratory expeditions in the Mediterranean. Especially in Albania, he created thus an important basis for the following study of the local flora.
