Friedrich Middelhauve

Friedrich Middelhauve ( born November 17, 1896 in Siegen, Westphalia, † July 14, 1966 in Bad Mergentheim, Baden- Württemberg ) was a German publisher and politician of the FDP.

Life and career

1921 doctorate Middelhauve Dr. phil. at the University of Cologne. He worked after his studies and doctorate initially as an independent bookseller in Leverkusen and from 1922 as a publisher.

Friedrich Middelhauve 1947 was founder and owner of the eponymous belletristic publisher, who published the first works of Heinrich Böll. This publisher later led his daughter Gertraud under their name. With the West German publisher Middelhauve also founded one of the leading social science publishers in Germany.

He was married to Bertha Middelhauve and had three children: Frederick Middelhauve jun, Gertraud Middelhauve and Mechthild reputation born Middelhauve. .

Party activity

Friedrich Middelhauve was a member of the German State Party in the Weimar Republic. During National Socialism, he was not politically active.

In 1945 he founded the first German building party in Opladen. He led this but soon the FDP and soon belonged to Franz Blücher, Hermann Höpker - Aschoff and Erich Mende to the leading figures in the Rhineland.
