Friedrich Carl Adolf Neelsen ( born March 29, 1854 in Uetersen, † April 10, 1894 in Dresden ) was a German pathologist.

Life

Friedrich CA Neelsen came as the son of a deacon Hans Friedrich Neelsen and his wife Bertha Sophia, born Lüders, in the pastorate in Uetersen on the world. He attended the school rector in Uetersen and a gymnasium in Altona. He studied medicine at the University of Leipzig, where he received his doctorate at age 22. Later, he accepted a position at the Pathological Institute of the University of Rostock. As head physician at the Institute of Pathology of the University of Dresden Neelsen died on 10 April 1894. He was buried in the old cemetery Anne.

Neelsen was only 40 years old. His years of research with dangerous bacteria eventually became his own undoing. Highly-regarded at home and abroad, scientists and doctor was very shy and shunned publicity whenever he could. But until his death he maintained contacts with his native town.

Work

Together with the Ziehl Neelsen neurologist Franz developed a method by which one can prove microscopic tubercle - the " Ziehl- Neelsen stain " for staining of these pathogens. After his breakthrough success, he was named in 1884, he had just turned 30 years old, to associate professor.
