Friedrich Preisigke

Friedrich Preisigke ( born February 14, 1856 in Dessau, † February 8, 1924 in Heidelberg ) was a German postal official and papyrologist.

Preisigke worked in the Postal and Telegraph Administration from 1877. In 1896 he was telegraph in Berlin, and from 1904 to 1915 in Strasbourg. In between, he studied from 1899 to 1902 at the Berlin University Classical Studies and was built in 1903 in phil hall with the work of Municipal civil service in Roman Egypt to the Dr.. doctorate. 1908 Preisigke took a study trip to Egypt, and in 1913 became Honorary Professor of papyrus Science at the University of Strasbourg. In 1915 he moved, again as an honorary professor at the University of Heidelberg.

Preisigke founded several tools for Papyrology, which are used or continued to this day: 's scrapbook Greek papyrus documents from Egypt, the correction list that lists new readings or interpretations, the Dictionary of Greek papyrus documents from Egypt ( continued from Emil Kiessling ) and the Book of Names. He also presented several editions of papyri and ostraca.

He was legal in 1910 honorary doctorate from the University of Heidelberg and was from 1915 a member of the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences.
