Friedrich Siebenrock

Friedrich SIEBENROCK ( born January 20, 1853 in Attersee am Attersee, † January 28, 1925 in Vienna ) was an Austrian zoologist.

Life

Seven rock initially grew up in his birthplace and then visited in Salzburg, as well as in Hall in Tirol high school. After graduation he studied zoology at the University of Innsbruck and the University of Vienna. In Innsbruck he was in the Corps Rhaetia and in Vienna in the Corps Saxonia Vienna active and towards the end of the course a long time as a demonstrator at Zootomischen Institute at the University operates.

After completing his studies in 1886 SIEBENROCK volunteer at the Natural History Museum in Vienna in January. There he spent his entire career, most recently as curator. In 1895 and 1897 he accompanied the director of the Zoological Department, Franz Steinach, in the First and Second Austrian expedition to the Red Sea.

The main scientific interest of seven rock was next to the crocodiles, especially the turtles. In the latter, he made his first descriptions by numerous scientific name.

Awards

For its special commitment to the Museum SIEBENROCK 1920 was appointed councilor, he also was honored by the award of the Knight's Cross of the Franz Joseph Order and the Silver Jubilee Hofmedaille.

In honor of SIEBENROCK following turtle species have been named:

  • Siebenrockiella crassicollis (Gray, 1831)
  • Chelodina siebenrocki ( Seven rock snake neck turtle) ( Werner, 1901)
  • Latastia siebenrocki ( Tornier, 1905)
  • Pleurotoma ( clavus ) siebenrocki ( Sturany, 1900)
  • Amussium siebenrocki ( Sturany, 1899)
