Friedrich Specht

Friedrich Specht ( born May 6, 1839 in Lauffen, † June 12, 1909 in Stuttgart ) was a German animal painter, sculptor and lithographer.

Life

He was educated at the Art School to Stuttgart. As an animal and landscape painter, he illustrated mainly zoological works and animal books.

He was the leading illustrator of the first edition of Brehm's Animal Life. His brothers were the woodcutter Carl Gottlob woodpecker and the animal painter August Specht.

For Adolf Gnauth he modeled the lion's head at the war memorial in 1870/71 at the Stuttgart Fangelsbachfriedhof. The monument was erected in 1874. It has not been preserved.
