Friendster

Friendster is a founded in 2002, operated by the Friendster Inc., especially in English-speaking and Asian region popular web-based social network. The site was until April 2004 as the largest social network on the Internet, but was then overtaken by MySpace in 2002, also established, as measured by page views.

In October 2003 there was a round of financing of 53 million U.S. dollars by Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield & Byers and Benchmark Capital, a purchase offer from Google about 30 million U.S. dollars in the same year previously rejected. In 2005, a further round of funding followed by Kleiner and Benchmark Capital, with the total value of Friendster was thereby significantly downgraded.

2006 Friendster was awarded a patent in 2003 applied- on the calculation and display of friendship relations in social networks, eliminating guesswork arose in the press that Friendster could specialize in licensing this patent in the future.

2009 Friendster was acquired by the Malaysian company MOL Global for online payments. The purchase price was not officially called the British Financial Times reported, however, that the sum should have probably exceed $ 100 million.
