The monastery Frienisberg is a former Cistercian abbey in Frienisberg in the municipality of Seedorf in the Canton of Bern.

History

The monastery was originally called Aurora, was founded in 1131 as a daughter house of the monastery La Petite, which was in turn a foundation of the abbey Bellevaux. From here, another daughter monasteries were founded: in 1160 the monastery Tennenbach and in the 13th century nunneries woman fountain, stones and Tedlingen ( Detlingen ).

1528, the monastery was dissolved after the introduction of the Reformation, 1534 canceled the church. From 1533 the former monastic buildings were converted into the Bernese bailiff ( until 1798 ) and served as a hospital and Pfrundanstalt. 1834 Taubstummenanstalt was established, which was converted in 1889 to today's living and nursing home.

Buildings and plant

The Outbound, formerly fünfjochige, ungewölbte church met the Baugepflogenheiten of the Order. It was replaced by a 1974-1975 erected north wing, in the southern high wall and the west wall of the monastery church and the remains of the wall of the south aisle are included. The choir was probably just closed. Get the 1518 is also increased, originally pointed barrel-vaulted south transept, over which the northern chapel in 1573 a bell tower was built. The cloister has been re- built around 1656 and was restored in 1975. In the east wing of the parlatorium is obtained. The west wing was rebuilt in 1784 as planned by Ludwig Emanuel Zehender late baroque.
