The frieze Bach is a left, about 9 km long tributary of the Red Main river on the outskirts of the Franconian Alb, Bavaria.

Fries source

The frieze source ( 410 m above sea level. NN ) is located southwest of Kasendorf. It is a typical karst spring; it is one with a very constant average bed of 400 liters per second of the strongest sources in Upper Franconia. You do not run dry even during dry periods. After the snow melts or after high rainfall the bed of the source layer increases considerably. The spring water then has a deep brown color and comes from a very large catchment area that extends over the surrounding places Reuth, Azendorf and Welsch Kahl. It occurs in caves and underground lakes to light. The frieze source was reported as a natural monument and the Bavarian State Office for the Environment as Geotop 477Q002. See also the list of geological sites in the district of Kulmbach.

Course

Shortly after its source operates the Bach Fries Fries Mill. In Döllnitz at the powder mill he takes on his biggest tributary, the flowing down of Thurnau Aubach. Opposite of threshing it flows into the Red Main.
