Friesenheimer Insel – Sandhofen Ferry

The Old Rhine ferry Mannheim is the oldest operating ferry in Germany and connects the municipality with Sandhofen Friesenheimer island over a Altrheinarm time. It was built in 1897 in Neckarsulm and provides between the end of March and September every day except Monday its service. In 2008 she was overhauled. The ship is moved to a base chain, and is driven by a diesel engine. Its capacity is 145 people and 10 tons of payload.

In agrarian north of Mannheim, the ferry is mainly used by farmers and cyclists as part of the Rhine Valley Cycle Route.
