The loggerhead Bonito ( Auxis thazard ) is a live in all oceans representatives of the mackerels and tunas ( Scombridae ).
Features
The fish have the typical spindle shape of all billfishes. The first dorsal fin has ten to twelve hard jets, the second ten to 13 soft rays. The anal fin has no hard radiation and 10 to 14 soft rays. The meat is dark and is regarded as less valuable than that of the genuine bonitos. Loggerhead bonitos are but because of their frequency also of great importance for fishing. The meat is marketed fresh, smoked, dried or preserved in cans.
