Frithjof Schmidt

Frithjof Schmidt ( born April 17, 1953 in Bad Harzburg ) is a German politician ( Alliance 90/The Greens ). He was from 2004 to 2009 an MEP in the Group of the Greens / European Free Alliance. In the 2009 federal election he was elected on the regional list North Rhine-Westphalia to the German Bundestag. He is one of the five Vice Presidents of the Alliance 90/The Greens parliamentary group.

Career

Schmidt has a PhD in social sciences with stays abroad at universities in Italy, France and the United States. Since the late sixties, he is active in the North-South solidarity, from 1984 to 1988 he was editor of Southeast Asia information. Since 1991 he is a board member of the Southeast Asia Observatory in Essen, since 1989 Associate Editor of World Economy, Ecology and Development.
