Fritz Genschow

Fritz Genschow ( born May 15, 1905 in Berlin, † June 21, 1977 ) was a German actor, film director and producer, who also wrote screenplays.

Life

The son of a baker received his artistic training at the rich man 's Academy of Dramatic Art in Berlin. In 1924 he made ​​his debut in the theater of Meiningen. In 1925/26 he played in Halle, 1927 in Berlin at the Theater am Nollendorfplatz. Other engagements have taken him to the Prussian State Theatre, at the Volksbühne and the Theater am Schiffbauerdamm.

In 1930 he founded with actress Renée Stobrawa his own theater, the Children's Theater Berlin. Here he brought, among others, the piece revolt on parental house to the performance. In the era of National Socialism his efforts in this direction came to a halt.

His film career began as an actor Fritz Genschow 1929 with the film Inherited instincts. In the 1930s, he was a busy Supporting Actor. His debut as a director, he was in 1935 with the film The interesting case. As a screenwriter, director and actor Genschow adapted the fairy tale Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf (1937 ) to the National Socialist ideology.

After the Second World War Genschow worked primarily as a director and writer and was acquainted with many fairy tale adaptations. He took over the production of his own films and also appeared as an actor.

In 1947 he became director of the Zehlendorfer outdoor stage at Waldsee, the later Genschow - Stobrawa Theatre. After the death Stobrawas he founded the Brothers Grimm theater. In 1963 he was awarded the Brothers Grimm Prize. As "Uncle Tobias ," a storyteller, he worked for the American RIAS.

His illegitimate daughter Heidi Genée was also active in the movie business and learned from him the movie craft. His legitimate children, which come from his marriage to Rita -Maria Nowotny, went to the movie: Marina Genschow became an actress, Gabriel Genschow was a screenwriter and film producer. Under the company name " media production and distribution Genschow " manage its rightful heirs since 2007 Genschows films.
