Fritz Sdunek

Fritz Sdunek ( born April 18, 1947 in Lüssow ) is a German boxing trainer and former amateur boxer.

Amateur

Fritz Sdunek began in 1963 with the boxes in the BSG locomotive Greifswald, 1969, he moved to SC Traktor Schwerin, for which he boxed up to end of his career in 1972. He won as a boxer 99 of 129 fights, his greatest success was winning the GDR students Championship title.

Coaching career

Directly after his active career, he was in Schwerin tractor trainer and remained loyal to the club until 1989, he coached there among other Zülow Andreas, who was in Seoul Olympic champion at lightweight in 1988. He studied at the German University of Physical Culture Sdunek ended in 1979 with the degree in physical education teacher. Moreover, he also worked for years as an assistant coach of the GDR selection Günter Debert. In 1988 he received in the GDR for his achievements as manager of the Order Banner of Labor Level I.

From 1990 to 1993 he was a coach in the Boxabteilung Bayer Leverkusen, he was in charge there already Dariusz Michalczewski, with whom he was in Gothenburg amateur European champion in 1991. Parallel to his work as a trainer in Leverkusen, he was from 1991 to 1992 coach of the Dutch national team. Under his leadership, Arnold Vanderlyde won the silver medal in the heavyweight division at the Amateur World Championships in 1991 in Sydney. From 1 January 1993 to 1994, he was also a national coach at DABV.

Since March 1994, he was hired as coach at Universum Box-Promotion, first as a fitness coach and in 1996 as head coach. Fritz Sdunek is one of the most successful boxing coach this time. In October 2009, Sdunek largely retired for health reasons on the advice of his doctors, as a result of cancer and heart problems of his work as a trainer at the Universum boxing stable back, supported by him Universum boxers were largely taken over by his colleague Michael Timm, Magomed Schaburow and Artur Grigorian.

In February 2010 Sdunek finished his work as a trainer with Universum Box-Promotion - by universe - information of an impending hip surgery. But he still trained heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko and former WBA middleweight world champion Felix Sturm. Since April 2013 Sdunek trained emerging middleweight Jack Culcay.

Since autumn 2009, Fritz Sdunek honorary citizen of his birth community Lüssow belonging to Gützkow since 2010.

Sdunek is married and has three children.
