The Fritz Thyssen Foundation supports young scientists and research projects. It was founded in 1959 and is based in Cologne.

Promotion purpose

Purpose of the Foundation is the promotion of science at universities and research institutes, primarily in Germany, with special emphasis on young scientists. The Foundation has this, its activities focused on promoting specific and time overseeable research projects. It supports small academic conferences, awards scholarships to young scientists who have completed their high school education with the promotion, financing several international scholarship and exchange programs and promotes a limited extent, the publication of the results of their supported research. The Fritz Thyssen Foundation also cooperates with other institutions. One example is awarded jointly with the Association of German Book Trade and the Foreign Office Price " Humanities International". The prize money will serve the translation of the award-winning humanities and social scientific works into English.

My research institutes or educational institutions does not maintain the foundation. It also promotes basically no projects that relate to areas from which the proceeds of the Foundation.

History

The Fritz Thyssen Foundation was established on July 7, 1959 by wife Amélie and her daughter Anita Gräfin Zichy -Thyssen in memory of Fritz Thyssen. With shares with a nominal value of nearly DM 100 million, the Foundation was the first major private scientific foundation in the Federal Republic of Germany. In 1972 the Foundation acquired a portion of the Palazzo Barbarigo della Terrazza, which became the seat of the German Study Center in Venice.

Seat

After over two years of renovation, extension and renovation work by the Foundation in January 2011 it has its seat in the acquired by it in the year of their 50th anniversary now former U.S. House based in Cologne. The club Amerika Haus NRW is drawn into the near Apostelnstraße.
