Fritzi Burger

Friederike " Fritzi " Burger ( born June 6, 1910 in Vienna, † February 16, 1999 in Portland, Maine) was an Austrian figure skater, which was launched in a single run.

Fritzi Burger was from 1928 to 1931 Austrian champion in figure skating ladies and thus succeeds the great Herma Szabo, who was six times became Austrian champion in a row in front of her and had dominated the five -time world champion in the individual running the international competition.

The first European Championship, in which there was a separate women's competition, Burger won the gold medal in Berlin in 1930 and was the first European Champion in the history of Eiskunstlaufes. The long-standing world champion Sonja Henie of Norway was absent from this tournament. Burger was never able to beat them in a competition. So it was mostly the second place. 1931 and 1932 was Burger European silver medalist behind Henie and 1933 third party.

Burger also took part in four World Cups. 1928 and 1931 she won bronze in 1929 and 1932, she was Vice World Champion behind Henie. In the Olympics, they suffered the same fate, both in 1928 in St. Moritz, as well as in 1932 in Lake Placid, she won silver behind the Norwegian.

After her last Olympics, she finished her career in 1932 and went to London where she married Shinkichi Nishikawa, a grandson of the Japanese pearl Mikimoto Kokichi magnate. Their son came in 1937 in Tokyo to the world. In the 1990s, she was living in the U.S., some interviews for reports on the history of figure skating.
